Your SURE inspector documents all areas affected by the event, the damage caused, and the likely cause, in accordance with AS 4349.0.

  3. 3

    Same-day report delivered

A clear, well-documented report with photographs of all affected areas is delivered the same day, subject to access and availability, suitable for submission with an insurance claim.

  4. 4

    Follow-up available

Your inspector can answer questions about the report during the free advice period, or attend as a witness if required.

The detail

About a insurance event inspection

The Insurance Event Inspection identifies building damage caused by an insured event, storm, flood, fire, impact, or any other sudden loss, and documents the areas affected, the damage caused, and the likely cause of the event. Completed in accordance with AS 4349.0-2007.

The report is designed for use with insurance claims and provides an independent, professional assessment of the damage in plain language with photographic evidence. Priced at $550 inc GST for the first hour on site, with additional time at $220 per hour.

Why this inspection matters

Insurers commission their own assessors. Those assessors work for the insurer, not you. An independent SURE inspection report gives you your own documented record of what was damaged, where, and why, before repairs begin and before the insurer’s assessment becomes the only version of events.

Book as soon as possible after the event. Damage documented in its original state, before temporary repairs, contractor attendance, or weather exposure changes the picture, provides the strongest basis for a claim. Once remediation work begins, some damage evidence may be lost permanently. If there is any dispute about the scope or cause of damage, your independent report is the counterpoint to the insurer’s version, not an afterthought assembled from memory.

Common questions

About insurance event inspection

What types of events does this cover?

Any building damage caused by an insured event, including storm, wind, flood, fire, lightning, impact (vehicle or falling tree), burst water pipes, or any other sudden event covered under a building insurance policy.

How soon after the event should I book?

As soon as possible, ideally before any temporary or permanent repairs are made. Documenting the damage in its original state provides the strongest evidence for your insurance claim.

Can this report be used in a dispute with my insurer?

Yes, an independent SURE inspection report provides documented evidence of the damage and its likely cause. This can be used to support a claim or challenge an insurer's assessment.

Is this inspection the same as an insurer's assessment?

No, the SURE inspection is independent of your insurer. Insurers typically commission their own assessors. Having your own independent report provides an important counterpoint if there is any dispute about the extent or cause of damage.

Does the inspection cover the contents of the property?

No, the inspection covers building damage only (structure, fixtures, fittings). Contents are the subject of a separate contents insurance claim.
