The people behind every inspection

Gary Wilkes, SURE Building Inspector
Gary Wilkes
Perth SE and SW (Cannington and Port Kennedy zones)

With more than 40 years in construction across the UK, Queensland and Western Australia, Gary brings practical depth few inspectors can match. He started as a carpenter and progressed to foreman and site supervisor on residential, commercial and infrastructure projects - including work associated with Heathrow Airport and multiple UK shopping centres - and went on to own building maintenance companies servicing housing associations in the UK and local-authority contracts in Queensland. Since moving to WA in 2021 he has focused on clear, honest inspections that pinpoint not just defects but their causes and what they mean for the owner.

Kim Steele
Perth NW and NE (Joondalup and Morley zones)

Kim is an experienced building inspector with a hands-on foundation in carpentry, joinery and construction, so he reads how a building was put together and how it performs over time, not just what shows on the surface. His career spans the restoration of heritage-listed buildings and centuries-old timber structures through to major public and private infrastructure and large-scale wetland projects, giving him deep knowledge of both traditional building techniques and modern construction. He takes pride in clear, practical advice grounded in real-world experience.

Our independence

Why an independent inspector?

Every SURE building inspector operates independently of builders, real estate agencies, and lenders. We earn no referral fees, hold no equity in developments we inspect, and have no incentive to soften a finding. Our only obligation is to the person who booked the inspection.

Our inspections are informed by the DefectIndex — a growing intelligence layer built from real inspection data across Perth and Sydney. When we arrive at a property, we already know the statistically common defect patterns for that suburb, that construction era, and that building type.

Every inspection also includes 12 months of free advice after we leave site. You have phone and email access for questions about the completed report during ordinary business hours. A trained SURE team member answers your call and routes you back to your inspector for anything technical.

“Detailed, thorough reports, delivered promptly after inspection.”

Common questions

What people ask

How do I find the right building inspector for my suburb?
Type your suburb into the search box above and we will highlight which SURE inspector covers it. Each inspector is permanently assigned to a local territory, so you get the same local expert rather than a rotating pool.
Do SURE inspectors cover my area?
SURE Building Inspections currently covers 553 suburbs across Perth and active Sydney franchise zones. Use the search box above to check your suburb. If you are outside our current coverage, call 1300 787 327 and we will let you know our next expansion area.
Are SURE inspectors independent?
Yes. SURE inspectors are not affiliated with any builder, real estate agency, or lender. Our inspectors earn no referral fees and hold no equity in any development they inspect. This independence is why we can offer 12 months of free advice after every inspection.
What experience sits behind a SURE inspection?
SURE inspectors bring trade, construction, and inspection experience relevant to their territory. The practical difference is the scale behind them: 9,237 completed inspections, 242,618 defects found, and central head office systems supporting each local franchise owner.
How quickly can a SURE inspector attend my property?
We typically book within 24 to 48 hours of your enquiry. Reports are delivered the same day as the inspection (subject to access and availability). Call 1300 787 327 with the property address to check the next available slot in your area.
