Switchboard not meeting current AS/NZS 3000 requirements, including missing RCDs (safety switches), overcrowded circuits, or outdated ceramic fuses. Common in pre-2000 Perth and Sydney homes that have not been upgraded.
Causes
- Original switchboard not upgraded to current standards
- Additional circuits added without professional design
- Absence of required RCD protection on power and lighting circuits
Symptoms to look for
- Ceramic rewirable fuses instead of circuit breakers
- Missing safety switches (RCDs) on power circuits
- Visible heat discolouration at switchboard connections
