Non-Compliant RCDs

Causes
- Absence of required RCD protection on power and lighting circuits
- Original switchboard not upgraded to current standards
- Additional circuits added without professional design
- Non-compliant original RCDs
- Outdated electrical installation
Symptoms to look for
- Lack of 2x RCDs with test buttons between board and switches
- Visible heat discolouration at switchboard connections
- Ceramic rewirable fuses instead of circuit breakers
- Missing safety switches (RCDs) on power circuits
- Original RCDs fitted are non compliant
Remedies
- Check with local council regarding type, locations and other related requirements
- Install compliant RCDs according to legislation (2x RCDs with test buttons)
- Full switchboard upgrade by licensed electrician
- Install RCDs on all power and lighting circuits
- Load assessment and circuit redistribution
