- Water pooling or ponding inside gutters rather than draining to downpipes
- Overflow marks or water stains on fascia and eave linings below gutter line
- Downpipes running dry during rain while gutters overflow at low points
- Moss or plant growth inside gutters indicating persistent standing water
Remedies
- Clear all debris from gutters and flush downpipes to confirm free discharge
- Have a roof plumber assess gutter fall - pooling often indicates incorrect gradient, not just debris
- Fit gutter guard to reduce ingress of leaf litter on high-shedding tree boundaries
- Schedule annual gutter inspections, more frequently if overhanging trees are present
