Causes

- Chemical reaction within the timber, potentially from fire retardants, preservatives, or other treatments.
- Chemical exposure (e.g., from old insulation or environmental factors)

Symptoms to look for
- Compromised battens with reduced load capacity evident on West & North facing planes of the roof

Remedies
