Methodology

How this map is built

Each suburb is geocoded to its approximate centroid using Australian Bureau of Statistics boundary data. Circle radius scales with total inspection report count; colour uses the weighted average severity of the suburb's published top defect types where rated data is available.

Only suburbs with k ≥ 5 observations are included, per our k-anonymity policy. No individual property addresses are plotted or exposed.

Defect types mapped is the count of k-anonymised suburb defect categories, not raw property-level observations.

Data refreshed weekly from the live DefectIndex corpus. Last update: July 2026.
